Sturgeon Fishing

Sturgeon can be pursued most of the year. You can keep one per day providing the season is open to retention. We usually get a retention season in June and part of July for the Lower Columbia river estuary area. I focus on Sturgeon at that place and time. This is a very productive fishery. On the good days you might not finish your lunch for hours with all the bites you get. You will catch plenty of shakers less than the 45" minimum. The slot limit is one fish between 45" and 60" in length. These trips are great for just about anyone. Newer anglers will to learn how to use the rod and reel to hook and land these large fish. We use salmon tackle to target these fish in fairly shallow water. These trips are a whole lot of fun. Sturgeon are excellent eating. I prefer sturgeon to halibut.
